Where has the International MotherBaby Childbirth Initiative (IMBCI) Gone?
Around the world! Yes, in many different ways – the IMBCI is being read in Spanish, French, Bulgarian, Czech and English and each translation can be downloaded from our website at www.imbci.org – Portuguese, Hebrew, German, Swahili and Estonian translations are coming soon. Thank you to all the volunteers that have worked on translations – we welcome translations that have not yet been submitted.
The IMBCI is also available as a slide presentation and the Spanish and English versions have been viewed over 700 times. To download or view the PowerPoint presentations go to our website or search IMBCI at www.slideshare.net. The IMBCI has been presented in the UK, the CzechRepublic, Uruguay, Estonia, Spain, Scotland, Mexico, Argentina, and more. If you have or would like to present the IMBCI let us know and we will post it on our website. You can also find us on Facebook.
Become an IMBCI Supporter
Your support of the International MotherBaby Childbirth Initiative is vitally important – completing the “Support Form” at www.imbci.org validates your support. We will add you to our mailing list which will not be sold and you will not inundated with emails, only updates from IMBCO.
Our Advisory Council
The Advisory Council is an important component of IMBCO that brings together a broad cross-section of outstanding leaders, thinkers and activists to ensure a strong knowledge base underlying the 10 Steps to Optimal MotherBaby Maternity Services. This is an impressive group and IMBCO is fortunate to have the opportunity to access their knowledge and skills as we work towards making optimal maternity care a reality. Our Advisory Council and their biographical profiles are listed on our website www.imbci.org.
IMBCO Regional and Country Representatives
The International MotherBaby Childbirth Initiative was developed in collaboration with representatives from all over the world. We are grateful to these committed individuals for the many hours that they contributed and for their continued support. Many countries have representatives, but more countries are needed. PLEASE contact us rae@imbci.org if you are interested in applying to be a country representative – we will send you the roles and responsibilities, but basically this is an opportunity to do what is your heart’s passion.
Let us know what is happening in your country—do you have any facilitiesor services that practiceor are close to practicing Optimal Maternity Care as defined by the 10 Steps in the IMBCI?
Apply to Become a MotherBaby Network (MBnet)
Do you have a local group of multi-discipline providers, consumers, and advocates? Do you want to bring groups and interested individuals together to create awareness and support optimal MotherBaby maternity care? Then consider forming a MotherBaby Network or MBnet. You can use the IMBCI as your core document, and to get your organization started you can apply for a mini-grant through Lamaze International at www.lamaze.org. In addition to increasing understanding of normal birth and breastfeeding and improving the quality of care for mothers and babies, the benefits of becoming an MBnet include:
Access to resources that support the IMBCI
IMBCO website link
Opportunities to consolidate and expand partnerships
Sharing and exchanging expertise, skills and resources
Increase your community’s capacity to influence health care
Strengthen community action
The application for becoming an MBnet is available on our website www.imbci.org.
Calling for Demonstration Sites
Demonstration sites are sites ready to meet the International MotherBaby Childbirth Organization (IMBCO) requirements for transparency and documentation, work in partnership with IMBCO, and receive specific technical support from IMBCO. These sites will put the International MotherBaby Childbirth Initiative (IMBCI) to work within the context of their own region and facility. IMBCO will evaluate the steps demonstration sites took to achieve optimal MotherBaby maternity care, and at the conclusion IMBCO will have definitive data to demonstrate the results, which we trust will include massive improvements in maternity and newborn care.
The purpose of demonstration sites is to create increased awareness of optimal MotherBaby maternity care and document successful changes in maternity care practices through the implementation of the Principles and 10 Steps of the International MotherBaby Childbirth Initiative. The application is available in English on our website www.imbci.org, and will soon be available in Spanish.
