Demonstration Site Project

Calling for Demonstration Sites

Demonstration sites are sites ready to meet the International MotherBaby Childbirth Organization (IMBCO) requirements for transparency and documentation, work in partnership with IMBCO, and receive specific technical support from IMBCO. These sites will put the International MotherBaby Childbirth Initiative (IMBCI) to work within the context of their own region and facility. IMBCO will evaluate the steps demonstration sites took to achieve optimal MotherBaby maternity care, and at the conclusion IMBCO will have definitive data to demonstrate the results, which we trust will include improvements in maternity and newborn care.

The purpose of demonstration sites is to create increased awareness of optimal MotherBaby care and document successful changes in maternity care practices through the implementation of the Principles and 10 Steps of the International MotherBaby Childbirth Initiative.   We are looking for 5 – 6 sites from regions in South America, North America, Europe, Africa, and Asia.

The benefits for becoming a demonstration site include the opportunity for ongoing support and technical training from the IMBCO advisory board and other international experts through monthly webinars; to work with IMBCO in documenting processes for implementing and changing practices; to collaborate on toolkit and training development; to become a contributor in the final version of the IMBCI; to ultimately publish the data in an international arena, and to be recognized as a facility that provides optimal MotherBaby maternity services.

To become a demonstration site the facility must complete a detailed application form that includes approval from the stakeholders for participation in the project, detailed descriptions and data on current models of care and outcomes, and a commitment to implement training as needed.  Upon completion of the application process a comprehensive self-assessment is administered.  The self-assessment will establish the need for training materials and resources.  Continual reassessment is ongoing as the facility implements new policies and practices that reflect compliance with the 10 Steps for optimal MotherBaby maternity services.
